Acceptance proves allegations against PG are valid: Dr Jameel

Former Vice-president Dr Mohamed Jameel Ahmed has stated that allegations against Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem are justified by his own admissions.

A case has been filed at the Bar Council against Prosecutor General Shameem in which serious allegations linking him to the MMPRC graft are made. According to the case filed at the Bar Council, Shameem received misappropriated funds from the scandal. While Shameem had previously represented the two main suspects in the corruption case, former Managing Director of MMPRC, Abdulla Ziyath and veteran footballer, Mohamed Hussain, it was also alleged that Shameem travelled to the UK to obtain a statement from Mohamed Hussain on the main company involved in the corruption, SOF Pvt Ltd's expense.

PG Shameen denied the accusations and said he did not visit the UK to attain Mohamed Hussain’s statement. He clarified that Mohamed was an old friend that he had not received any payment from Mohamed for working as his attorney. He further said he has not represented any individuals since he was appointed as the PG, and that he has removed himself from the cases on which he was working.

The former Vice-president Dr Jameel, who is also a renowned lawyer responded to PG Shameem’s statements by pointing out that it is unacceptable for someone who had previously represented the defendants in the case to represent the state in the opposite side .
