COVID-19: Over 30 islands and resorts have active cases

The Health Protection Agency (HPA), has revealed that COVID-19 cases are active in 18 islands and 13 resorts of the Maldives.

HPA said 21 positive cases of COVID-19 are active at 13 resort, noting that 8 tourists and 13 employees at the resorts have tested positive for the virus. However, the names of the resorts were not revealed.

The number of cases have been increasing in the atolls over the past few weeks. Among the islands with active cases are Hithadhoo and Feydhoo of Addu City, Fuvahmulah City, Maamigili and Ihavandhoo.

The Maldives recorded 170 positive cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday. HPA said all but one case was identified in epicentre, capital Male’ region. The new cases of 139 locals and 31 foreigners. The total number cases has now crossed 6,000, with the tally at 6,079.

HPA also announced 160 new recoveries, bringing the total number of recoveries to 3,648. 24 deaths have been recorded to date with the most recent death occurring on Tuesday morning. The number of active cases is 2,407.

144 patients are currently hospitalised and receiving treatment.
