Colombia's famed singer Shakira and partner, Barcelona’s footballer Gerard Piqué are holidaying in the Maldives.
AVAS has learnt that the couple arrived in the Maldives at 10:00pm on Tuesday via a private jet. The couple, along with their two children will be spending the next ten days at high end resort, Waldorf Astoria Ithaafushi in Kaafu atoll.
With 52 million followers on Twitter and 67.8 million followers on Instagram, Shakira, often referred to as the Queen of Latin Music took the world by the storm when she recorded the theme song for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Spanish footballer Piqué, who has a fan base of 18.4 million followers on Instagram and 19.7 million followers on Twitter, plays as a centre-back for Barcelona and is considered to be one of the best defenders in the world. The presence of two influential celebrities will promote Maldivian tourism amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Nestled among white sands and crystal blue waters, Ithaafushi is a world-class lifestyle sanctuary and boasts 119 beach, reef and overwater villas. Opened in 2018, the resort was developed by local businessman Mohamed Ali Janah and a middle eastern millionaire.
