Over 60 percent of hospital beds occupied, warns HEOC

Over 60 percent of hospital beds available for COVID-19 treatment in the Greater Male’ Region are currently occupied, the Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC) has stated.

HEOC’s Spokesperson Dr. Nazla Rafeeq said the number of people who require hospitalisation due to COVID-19 are increasing and that 62 percent of hospital beds in the Male’ area are occupied. The public must do its part to protect their families by working with the authorities, said Dr. Nazla.

The agency’s warning comes at a time when criticism has been aimed at the Health Protection Agency for introducing a vehicle movement ban from 0800pm to 0500am in addition to a curfew already in place from 1000pm to 0500am.

The Maldives has recorded 6,660 positive cases of COVID-19 and 26 deaths to date.
