COVID-19: 74 in hospitals, three in ICU

The Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC) has stated that 74 people infected with COVID-19 are currently hospitalised across Maldives.

The Maldives recorded a high number of hospitalizations last August, but the numbers have been falling over the past few weeks.

Speaking at a press conference held Saturday, HEOC’s Spokesperson Dr. Nazla Rafeeq said one patient is admitted in the special Intensive Care Unit established for COVID-19 patients at the DH11 facility in Dharumavantha Hospital. Three are hospitalised in the ward designated at DH16 for pregnant women, said Dr Nazla.

64 patients are currently hospitalised at the Hulhumale’ Medical Facility, out of which two are admitted in the ICU. Six are admitted in the Ga. Atoll COVID Facility, she added.

The total number of COVID-19 cases recorded in the Maldives is now at 10,859. While 34 deaths have been recorded to date, cases are active in 22 islands across Maldives, in addition to 120 resorts.
