Temporary shelter being arranged for those affected in fire, says NDMA

The National Disaster Management Authority, NDMA has stated that temporary shelter will be provided at Kalaafaanu School for those affected by Friday night’s fire.

A fire erupted in a cafe’ in Henveiru ward of capital Male’ which spread to an adjacent building, causing significant damage. Several offices including the State Bank of India and Ooredoo are located in the building. The fire has now been controlled.

The Chief Executive of NDMA, Hisaan Hassan while speaking with AVAS said Kalaafaanu School is being arranged as a temporary shelter for those who require it. No casualties were reported in the incident, said Hisaan. He added that the authority will begin work to identify those who are in need of shelter as soon as the fire is put out. Representatives from NDMA are currentlty active on the scene.
