The Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC) has revealed that antibody tests will be carried out across Maldives to identify those who were infected by and subsequently recovered from COVID-19.
Speaking at a press conference held Thursday night, public health expert, Dr. Sheena Moosa said the centre will be carrying out antibody tests to estimate the total number of positive cases in the Maldives. While all preparations are now ready, the initiative will kick off during the first week of October, said Dr. Sheena.
HEOC’s Spokesperson, Dr. Nazla Rafeeq said a study plan has been established to identify the true extent of COVID-19 spread in the Maldives. The study will be carried out with the assistance of Maldives National University.
While over 200 days have passed since the Maldives identified its first case of COVID-19, over 10,000 people have been infected by the virus thus far. 34 deaths have been recorded to date, and 1,300 cases are currently active.
