National airline to begin seaplane services in Addu City

National airline Maldivian will be expanding its sea plane base to include southernmost Addu city.

AVAS has learnt that a team from the airline will be traveling to Addu city on Saturday to sign an official agreement with Addu International Airport. It is believed that Addu and Huvadu atoll will be linked via seaplane travel once the agreement comes into effect. Reports say operations between the two atolls will begin next month.

Maldivian recently added connection flights between Addu and Huvadu atoll. The move aims to increase economic activities between the two large atolls.

The operation of seaplanes at Addu International Airport was first contracted to private company, Trans Maldivian Airways (TMA). However, the company was not successful in implementing the project.
