Speaker of the Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed on Sunday met with Defense Minister Mariya Ahmed Didi and Chief of Defense Force Major General Abdulla Shamaal.
Neither the parliament nor the Defence Ministry revealed details regarding the meeting. The meeting took place at a time when the public has been expressing concern over Indian army personnel being stationed in the Maldives. While a social a campaign, ‘India Out’ is gaining momentum, Nasheed has spoken in India’s defense multiple times.
During a recent parliamentary sitting, Nasheed had suggesed that the ‘India Out’ campaign was not being orchestrated by Maldivians, and suggested that religious extremist organizations were involved. Nasheed said most accounts actively tweeting on the matter were fake accounts made especially for the purpose, adding that he does not believe any political parties are involved in the campaign.
