The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has brought changes to its current guidelines regarding the use of parks and public spaces.
Restrictions were in place on the use of parks and public spaces as a precautionary measure against COVID-19. A directive signed by the Director General of Public Health, Maimoona Aboobakur was issued on Saturday, in which revisions to the current restrictions were announced.
According to the changes, parks, public spaces and museums will be allowed to open effective from Sunday. However, special guidelines need to be followed in reopening these spaces, it said.
The directive further said contact and outdoor sports activities will be allowed to resume from Sunday onwards. Spectators can attend these events if the number of people in attendance does not exceed 15, said HPA. It further instructed people with any symptoms of COVID-19 to refrain from attending or participating in any sporting events.
Although the resumption of sports activities have now been allowed, the Ministry of Youth and Sports have not yet given the green light to conduct any sports events.
Changes have also been brought to the curfew hours imposed in the Greater Male’ Region. People will now be allowed outside at all hours except between 0000hrs and 0400hrs. Cafes and restaurants can remain open from 0430hrs until 2330hrs while shops can serve customers between 0500hrs and 2300hrs.
