COVID-19: Preschools to reopen in the atolls

The Education Ministry has announced the government’s decision to reopen preschools in the atolls.

All schools and educational institutes were closed in March as a precautionary measure against COVID-19. Classes were conducted online during that time. Schools in the islands were reopened in July although preschools were not included among them. Physical classes have resumed in epicentre, capital Male' for grades seven and above.

The Education Ministry Tuesday said the ministry has made the decision to reopen preschools in the atolls as per the recommendation of the HEalth the Protection Agency (HPA). The ministry has also permitted to carry out age-appropriate activities for foundation age students.

The government has revised the academic calendar such that the new academic year starts in August instead of January. According to the new changes, the second term for the 2020 academic year will begin on January 10, and end on June 24. The new academic year will begin on August 10.
