Air Astana to use larger aircraft for flights to the Maldives

Kazakhstan’s flag carrier, Air Astana, has decided to use a larger aircraft in its operations to the Maldives that are scheduled to begin this December. The upgrade was made due to a high demand for the destination.

According to Air Astana, which will begin direct flights to the Maldives on December 5, a larger aircraft, Wide Body Boeing 767 that can carry more passengers will be used from December 16 to January 16 instead of the Airbus LR 321 that was previously arranged for the operation. This is due to an influx in demand corresponding to the upcoming tourism season, said the airline. The weekly flights will operate on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

The airfare for an economy class ticket between Almaty, Kazakhstan and Maldives will cost USD 677. A business class ticket will cost USD 2067.

Kazakhstan is situated in the Central Asia. The Maldives enjoys a large number of arrivals from the region. The commencement of flights between Khazakhstan and Maldives will likely boost the number of tourist arrivals in the Maldives.

The Maldives closed its borders to tourists on March 27 as a precautionary measure against COVID-19. The tourism dependent archipelago reopened its borders on July 15, and the number of arrivals have been steadily increasing since then.
