Azur Air commences flights to Maldives with over 500 passengers

Azur Air on Saturday commenced operation to the Maldives.

Azur Air began operation to the Maldives in December 2019, but suspended operation after the Maldives closed its borders in March 2020 as a precautionary measure against the COVID-19 pandemic. It resumed operation to the Maldives with 530 arrivals on Saturday.

A special ceremony was held at Velana International Airport (VIA) to welcome the flight arriving from Moscow, Russia.

Speaking at the ceremony, owner of Resort Life, the local travel agency which operates the charter, Mohamed Shaz Waleed said all seats on the flight which arrived from Moscow was full to its maximum capacity. With 530 passengers, this is the most number of tourists to arrive in the Maldives on a single flight since border reopening, said Shaz.

While only one weekly flight is operated at this time, the number of weekly flights will be increased to two very soon, said Shaz.
