Ports Chairman resigns from post

Chairman of Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) Mohamed Zaki has stepped down from the post.

Zaki resigned from the post a few days after he spoke out regarding a corruption alleged to have taken place at MPL which was linked to the fuel trade. Zaki said over MVR 8 million was stolen by employees working at MPL, and that the company’s board had not supported his initiative to suspend the employees alleged to be involved in the corruption.

However, MPL has confirmed that the company took action against those involved in the corruption said to have taken place during the COVID-19 lockdown period.
