Use of masks to be made mandatory; quarantine shortened

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced changes to COVID-19 guidelines established in the Maldives.

According to the new changes, the quarantine period has been shorted from 14 days to 10 days. Additionally, the use of masks have been made mandatory in all inhabited islands and airport islands across Maldives.

In its announcement, HPA said the changes will come into effect from Friday, the 4th of December. Those who already began quarantine prior to the implementation of the new guidelines will be required to complete 14 days of quarantine. Those who have to go into quarantine due to testing positive for COVID-19, and due to being in contact with a positive case will also need to complete 14 days of quarantine.

Changes have also been brought such that those traveling to islands from capital Male’ for projects and other purposes with HPA permission can travel if a PCR test taken 72 prior to traveling shows a negative test. The cost of the tests will have to be borne by the traveler or their employer.

While 13,049 cases of COVID-19 have been registered in the Maldives until now, 11,968 recoveries have been recorded to date. 1,027 cases are currently active in 15 islands across Maldives.
