Speaker requests 241 committee to investigate ACP's resignation

The retirement of Assistant Commissioner of Police, Dr. Ahmed Fairoosh has been submitted for investigation at the Parliament’s Security Services Committee (241 Committee). The case was filed by Speaker of the Parliament and former president of the Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed.

Nasheed filed the case with the committee as he believes Fairoosh’s retirement is not in line with the recently ratified Police Act. While the act was ratified on December 27, 2020, the states that the act will become effective three months from the date it was published in the Gazette.

According to Article 112 of the Police Act, all police officers who retire from service except for those who leave service to escape consequences of actions carried out while in service, are given honorable discharges.
