Random COVID-19 samples will be taken in Addu City starting Tuesday, the Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC) has announced.
According to HEOC, random samples will be taken in Addu City as a precautionary measure to ensure that the virus is not circulating in the city. Priority will be given to those providing services to the public and those who work in places which residents of the city frequent. This includes shopkeepers and those working on public ferries.
HEOC did not reveal the number of samples that will be collected from Addu City, and for how long the sample collection process will be ongoing.
The number of COVID-19 cases being identified in the Maldives is once again on the rise. In addition to the capital, Male’, an outbreak is present in Dhevvadhoo island of GDh. atoll, with several people linked to the cluster scattered over five islands across Maldives. A large number of positive cases have also been identified in local resorts.
