Maritime Academy files case against state at the Supreme Court

The Maldives Maritime Academy has filed a case against the state at the Supreme Court.

The case was filed in relation to a state building leased from HDh. Kulhudhuffushi to operate the Maritime Academy. While the lease agreement was signed in 2011 for a duration of four years, the agreement was terminated in 2013.

In its case, the Maritime Academy claims that the agreement was terminated unlawfully. Therefore, the academy is seeking for the court to rule that the agreement is valid, and that the academy can be run in the building.

The case was previously filed at lower courts, and the court had ruled that there is no basis to order the state to allow the Maritime Academy to use the building for its intended use. The lower court’s ruling was maintained by the High Court.
