A person who traveled to F. Nilandhoo for official purposes has tested positive for COVID-19.
Nilandhoo Council on Wednesday said the individual who tested positive is an official from the Environment Ministry who traveled to the island for surveying. Three other people traveled to the island with him from Male’ City. While several people from Nilandhoo were in direct contact with the personl who tested positive, they are now in quarantine, said the island council.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA)’s guidelines previously allowed for government officials to travel to islands for official purposes for a limited amount of time without having to quarantine themselves. The guideline was revised late Tuesday after a hike in positive cases in the capital. Those traveling to islands from Male’ including government officials will now have to quarantine themselves.
