Gov't seeks parties interested in developing four airports

The government is seeking parties to develop airports in four islands.

The Finance Ministry said the Planning Ministry has requested to issue invitations for parties interested in developing airports in B. Thulhaadhoo, Th. Vilufushi, Sh. Bilaiyfahi and HDh. Makunudhoo to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI). One party may express interest in developing more than one airport, the Finance Ministry said.

The Finance Ministry said the Terms of Reference (TOR) with the information regarding the projects will be published on the ministry’s website on January 31st. It is the responsibility of interested parties to look up the latest information on the EOIs on the ministry’s website, said the ministry. Invitation for proposals will be sent to short listed parties.

It is a pledge of the government to establish airports within a 20-minute travel distance from all inhabited islands of the Maldives. The same policy was followed by the administration of former president, Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom. A large number of domestic airports were established for the purpose in multiple islands. There are currently 14 airports in the Maldives including three international airports.
