Over 92,000 tourists visited the Maldives during the first month of 2021.
Statistics shared by the Tourism Ministry show that 92,103 tourists visited the Maldives in January. January is considered a peak month in tourist arrivals.
The number of arrivals recorded in January this year is a 47 percent decline from the number of tourists who visited the archipelago during the same period in 2020. 173, 874 tourist arrivals were recorded in January 2020.
An average of 2,971 daily tourist arrivals were recorded last month, with an average stay duration of 9.2 days. The most number of arrivals were recorded from Russia, with 20.973 tourists. Russian tourists account for 22 percent of arrivals during January. The second-most number of arrivals were recorded from India with 19,135 arrivals from the neighbouring nation.
The most number of arrivals were recorded in January on the last day of the month. 4,218 tourist arrivals were recorded on January 31.
Last year, the Maldives hosted 555,494 tourists. The government aims to host one million tourists this year.
