The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced that COVID-19 vaccines will be available from all hospitals across Maldives from Wednesday onwards.
Speaking at a press conference by the Health Emergency Operations Centre (HEOC) on Tuesday evening, Dr. Ahmed Faisal from HEOC said COVID-19 vaccines will be administered from all hospitals across Maldives from Tuesday. The hospitals will also begin administering the vaccines to those above the age of 60 starting Wednesday, he added. Vaccines will be administered on an appointment basis at this time, and the relevant authorities will be contacting those who have signed up to receive the vaccine via the vaccine portal, said Dr. Faisal.
Noting that two doses of the vaccine are required to ensure the effectiveness of the vaccine, Dr. Faisal advised those receiving the vaccine to seek medical attention if any problems arise after the administration of the initial vaccine dose.
The Maldives initiated its national COVID-19 vaccine drive on Monday. Currently, only the COVISHIELD vaccine manufactured in India under a special license from AstraZeneca is being administered in the Maldives. Over 800 people have been vaccinated against COVID-19 in the Maldives during the first two days of the vaccine drive.
