COVID-19: Vaccine registration opens for those working in tourism sector

Tourism Ministry has opened vaccine registration for tourism industry professionals who wish to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

A circular issued by the ministry on Wednesday requested resort workers who wish to get vaccinated to send their names, Date of Birth, ID card number, their department and position and email address to the ministry. Foreign resort workers are required to send their passport number and work permit or visa numbers.

The circular said vaccine registration is open for those working in safaris, hotels and guest houses in addition to those working in resorts.

Tourism Minister Dr. Abdulla Mausoom has previously stated that the government is working to start vaccine administration for resort workers within the next week. The minister said 10,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have already been allotted for those working in the tourism industry. Those working in resorts will not have to travel to the capital to receive the vaccine, and arrangements will be made such that the workers can receive the jab on their respective islands, said the minister.

The Maldives initiated its national COVID-19 vaccine drive on Monday. Currently, only the COVISHIELD vaccine manufactured in India under a special license from AstraZeneca is being administered in the Maldives. Over 800 people have been vaccinated against COVID-19 in the Maldives during the first two days of the vaccine drive.
