Maldives VP gets vaccinated against COVID-19

Vice President Faisal Naseem on Monday got vaccinated against COVID-19 with the Covishield vaccine at Senahiya Hospital. After receiving the first dose of the vaccine, the Vice President appealed the public to come forth in the national spirit and urged everyone to get vaccinated as soon as possible.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih initiated the “Covid-19 Dhifaau” campaign to inoculate the entire population against COVID-19 on the 1st of February 2021. The “Covishield” brand vaccine administered in the Maldives was developed by the Serum Institute of India (SII) with the same formula as the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine. On January 20, 2021, the Government of India donated a shipment of 100,000 doses of the vaccine to the Maldives.

Vaccination arrangements have been made all across the Maldives. The total number of persons vaccinated with Covishield in the Maldives has reached more than 12,900 people at present.
