The Maldives has received 5,000 additional doses of COVID-19 vaccine, and 100,000 doses are expected later this month, the President's Office has announced.
During a press conference held Wednesday, Spokesperson from the President’s Office, Mohamed Mabrook Azeez said while the Maldives received 5,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine on Wednesday, a further 100,000 doses are expected later this month. The government is in discussion with other countries regarding vaccine-related matters, said Mabrook.
The Maldives began its COVID-19 vaccine drive on 1st February 2021. The “COVISHIELD” brand vaccine developed by the Serum Institute of India (SII) with the same formula as the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine is currently being administered in the Maldives. The Government of India donated a shipment of 100,000 doses of the vaccine to the Maldives.
The Government of China will also be donating 100,000 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine manufactured in China.
