India donates 100,000 additional doses of Covishield vaccine

The government of India has donated an additional 100,000 doses of the COVISHIELD vaccine.

The announcement was made by India's External Affairs Minister Dr S. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on his current visit to the Maldives. The vaccines were symbolically handed over to the Maldives' government at a ceremony held on Saturday. The donation was received by Maldives Foreign Minister, Abdulla Shahid.

The COVID-19 vaccine produced by AstraZeneca is being manufactured by India's Serum Institute under a special licensing issued by AstraZeneca. The vaccine is distributed as COVISHIELD, and is being used in Maldives' COVID-19 vaccine program.
