The ‘Telekilaas’ program conducted by the Education Ministry via state television has won an international award.
The Telekilaas program was commenced on March 15th 2020 after schools in the Maldives closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Public Service Media’s Munnaaru Channel, YesTV and Dhivehi Channel were used to air the program. The program won the ‘Wenhui Award for Educational Innovation 2020” in the Asia Pacific region. The Education Ministry won US$ 20,000 as prize money for the award.
The Wenhui Award was introduced by UNESCO Asia Pacific Program of Education Innovation for Development, and National Commission of the Peoples’ Republic of China for UNESCO in 2010. The award recognizes and rewards individuals or institutions that have made outstanding contributions to educational innovation in the Asia-Pacific region.
