One fourth of the population has received initial dose of vaccine

Over 111,000 people have received the initial dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in the Maldives.

The Maldives began its national COVID-19 vaccine drive on February 1st. The archipelago is currently using the COVISHIELD vaccine manufactured by India’s Serum Institute under a special license granted by AstraZeneca. The vaccine has two doses.

According to the Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC), 111,415 people have received the first dose of the vaccine thus far. This number is equivalent to a quarter of the country’s entire population.

While 75,163 people have received the COVID-19 vaccine in the Greater Male’ Area, 36,252 people received the vaccine in the atolls. 5,923 people were vaccinated in total over the past 24 hours.
