Worst week thus far, over 1000 positive cases

The Health Emergency Operations Centre (HEOC) has stated that last week was the worst week in terms of COVID-19 infections in the Maldives.

As the Maldives recorded its first COVID-19 case on Tuesday, April 15, 2020, weeks are counted from Tuesday to Tuesday.

According to HEOC, 1020 people tested positive for COVID-19 over the past seven days, the highest number of weekly infections to date. The centre’s Spokesperson, Dr. Nazla Rafeeq said while the number of infections have been surging over the past few months, the average weekly infections have remained below 1,000 until now.

The Maldives has recorded 20,447 COVID-19 cases and 64 deaths thus far. Authorities have increased restrictions to counter the rise in positive cases.
