Expired vaccines are not used in vaccination drive: HPA

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has denied claims that the agency uses expired vaccines in the Maldives' COVID-19 vaccination drive.

Several people have taken to social media to express concern and anger, claiming that expired vaccines are being administered in the atolls.

Addressing the claims, HPA's Spokesperson, Dr. Fathmath Nazla Rafeeq, said expired vaccines have not and will not be used in any atolls and islands. Although the label on the Pfizer vaccines currently being used states that the vaccine has expired, the World Health Organization (WHO) has communicated that it can be used for another three months, said Nazla.

As per the latest statistics issued by HPA, 396,004 people have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 364,814 people have received the second dose. 16,513 individuals have received the Pfizer booster.
