President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that jailed former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom has made no medical requests to the government.
During a press conference held on Wednesday, President Solih was asked why former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Ghafoor and former MMPRC Managing Director, Abdulla Ziyath, both of whom have been convicted in relation to the same corruption case as President Yameen, are under house arrest while Yameen remains in jail.
In his response, President Solih said both Adeeb and Ziyath remain under house arrest as per procedure, and that both were allowed to remain under house arrest as medical documents confirming their health status were submitted on behalf of both individuals. No such documents have been received thus far from President Yameen, said President Solih.
Noting that President Yameen previously requested the government to travel abroad to undergo some medical tests, the opportunity was extended to the former president, said President Solih. However, he declined the opportunity offered by the government, said the president. Since then, no requests were made by the former president with regard to his health, and had any requests been made, it would have been fulfilled by the government, assured the president.
