President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will be traveling to Qatar and Bangladesh on an official visit.
Spokesperson of the President’s Office, Mohamed Mabrook Azeez said President Solih will depart from the Maldives on March 14. The President’s first stop will be at Qatar, after which he will travel to Bangladesh on March 15 to attend a ceremony held on the occasion of Bangladesh’s founder Sheikh Mujrib Rahman’s birthday.
The Maldives joined Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain, Egypt and other Arab nations in cutting off diplomatic ties with Qatar on June 5, 2017 on accusations that Qatar supports terrorism. While the Maldives recently reinstated ties with Qatar after Saudi Arabia and its allies agreed in January to end the political row, Mabrook said the purpose of the President’s visit to Qatar is to formalize the reinstatement of ties.
