President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Sunday departed on an official visit to the State of Qatar and a state visit to the People's Republic of Bangladesh. First Lady Fazna Ahmed and a high-level delegation of the Maldives’ government are accompanying the President on this trip.
According to the President’s Office, the main objective of the President’s visit to Qatar is to further develop bilateral bonds following the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Subsequently, President Solih, First Lady Fazna and the Maldivian delegation are scheduled to visit Bangladesh, on the 17th March 2021. There, President Solih will attend the official ceremony of the 'Birth Centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman'. He is also scheduled to hold a one-to-one call with the Prime Minister of Bangladesh and to meet other senior officials of the Bangladeshi government to hold discussions on ways to further strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries. As part of the State Visit, the President will also meet the Maldivian community residing in Bangladesh.
The President, First Lady and the Maldivian delegation are scheduled to conclude both visits and return to the Maldives on 20th March 2021.
