Three political parties fined for violating HPA guidelines

Three political parties have been fined for violating the guidelines set by the Health Protection Agency (HPA).

According to Maldives Police Service, main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and opposing Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) as well as Peoples' National Congress (PNC) were fined for violating guidelines set by HPA in response to the current pandemic situation in Maldives. However, the police did not disclose the amount charged as fines.

The opposition has been holding serial protests that go against HPA guidelines every weekend.
Last weekend, MDP held an event in reclaimed suburb Hulhumale' to officially open a campaign station. A large number of people attended the ceremony in violation to HPA guidelines, and police had not attempted to stop the event. MDP had stated that the party held the event with HPA's permission. Therefore, it is unknown for which violation MDP was fined for.
