In the April 21 parliamentary elections, members were elected to 93 seats, with the PNC securing a majority of 66 seats. While eleven independent candidates won seats, most are now aligned with the PNC. Since the election, several independent candidates have joined the ruling party, increasing PNC's representation in the 20th Parliament to 75 members.
Additionally, Jumhooree Party leader Gasim Ibrahim, Maldives National Party leader Mohamed Nazim, Maldives Development Alliance leader Ahmed Siyam Mohamed, and senior MDA member Abbas, all of whom were elected to the Parliament, will also work with the PNC. The opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) won only 12 seats in the parliamentary elections.
The ruling PNC has stated it will not abuse its supermajority in the Parliament and will act responsibly.
