HPA to administer second dose of vaccine under special circumstances

The Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC) has stated that the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine may be administered under special circumstances before the 8-week period between its two doses are completed.

According to HEOC, the second dose of the vaccine will be given to those traveling abroad and cannot return back to the Maldives until after the 8-week duration has ended. Documents that confirm the situation must be submitted in order for the person to qualify to receive the second dose ahead of schedule.

The Maldives began its COVID-19 vaccine program on February 1st, and completed the first round of vaccine administration on March 15. The initial vaccine dose will only be administered for special cases between March 15 and the date of commencement of the second round of vaccination. While over 215,000 people have received the initial dose of the vaccine, HEOC is currently preparing to begin the administration of the vaccine’s second dose.
