Male’ City Mayor Sifa Muhammad has stated that a plan has been formulated for the City Council to offer jobs to 200 locals through decreasing the number of expatriate workers.
A tweet posted by by opposing Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM)’s Mayoral candidate, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Saturday night said Male’ City Council must prioritize hiring locals and decrease the number of expatriates working for the council. He further called on the City Council to offer more employment opportunities to those with special needs.
Responding to the tweet, Mayor Sifa said 30 additional local staff have been hired by the council over the past two years, and a plan is in place to hire 200 more local staff. She further pointed out that while Muizzu managed all sections of Male’ City Council for seven years, no changes were brought to the number of expatriates working for the council.
