Fiyaz resigns from Information Commissioner’s post

Hussain Fiyaz Moosa has on Sunday resigned from the Information Commissioner’s post. He submitted his resignation in writing to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih Sunday morning.

Hussain Fiyaz Moosa was appointed to the post on October 31, 2019. During his short time in the commission, Fiyaz brought revolutionary changes to the office, and expanded the right to information as in the constitution.

Hussain Fiyaz Moosa has served extensively in the media field and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication from Curtin University. He previously served as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Raajje TV, and Editor of Raajje.mv. Prior to his new appointment, Fiyaz served as the Founder and Managing Director of privately-owned marketing and media relations firm Komaakoalhi. He also worked for many years in Haveeru news.

Fiyaz’s resignation comes while a new media outlet, ‘Adhadhu’ is being launched by his wife, in partnership with lawyer Mahfooz Saeed. AVAS has learnt that Fiyaz will be the news paper’s Chief Editor.

The Information Commissioner’s Office was established on July 13, 2014, as per Article 43 (a) of the RTI Act. The information commissioner is mandated with the enforcement of the RTI Act – the law defines the right to access and obtain information in any state institution and encourages the widest circulation of information available at state institutions.
