Over 60 percent of population receives first dose of vaccine

Over 60 percent of those eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine from among the Maldives’ population has received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

According to the Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC), 61 percent of those above the age of 18 and 75 percent of those above 60 years of age have received the initial dose of the two-dese COVID-19 vaccine. A total of 232,175 people have received the vaccine thus far, including 129,069 people from the Greater Male’ Area and 103,106 people from the atolls.

The Maldives used Serum Institute of India’s COVSHIELD vaccine during its first round of inoculation. The second dose of the vaccine will be administered eight weeks after the administration of the first dose. While China’s Sinopharm vaccine is being used in the second round, the second dose will be administered four weeks after administration of the first dose.
