The Elections Commission (EC) has stated that the voter turnout for Saturday's Local Council and Women's Development Committee elections was at 65 percent.
Speaking to AVAS, President of EC, Ahmed Shareef Adam said the commission is satisfied with the voter turnout, and that it surpassed the commission's 50 percent forecast. Shareef noted that the turnout in some islands and atolls were between 70 to 90 percent. However, the number of voters in Male' City were considerably lower, he said.
'Around 20 percent of voters cast their votes for each constituency in Male' city," said Shareef.
273,128 people were eligible to vote in the election.
