The Master Plan developed for reclaimed suburbs Hulhumale' has won an international award.
The Master Plan aims to decrease congestion in Male' city and address housing issues faced by those living in the capital area. The plan won the Honorable Mention in Landscape Architecture / Urban Planning award handed out annually by The Architecture MasterPrize (AMP).
AMP said on its website that the Hulhumale' Master Plan develops a sustainable planning framework for climate adaptation and livability to solve the problem of sea-level rise and overloaded living. Combined with existing ecologic resources, the Public Service Axis and the ecologic axis provides attractive public space and livable environments like parks, schools, civic institutions, waterfront space, said AMP. Historical sites such as the ancient mosque on Male will be transferred Heritage Island Park, creating a vibrant place integrates history, culture and leisure, it further said.
The Architecture MasterPrize (AMP) is an international architecture awards program established in 1985 with the mission to advance the appreciation and exposure of quality architectural design worldwide. The AMP architecture award celebrates creativity and innovation in the fields of architectural design, landscape architecture, and interior design.
