Ex-pres summoned to police HQ for questioning

Former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom was summoned to the police headquarters on Sunday.

Police media official said President Yameen was summoned to the police headquarters for questioning at 11:00 am regarding a case linked to the MMPRC corruption scandal. No further details were provided.

President Yameen's legal team have alleged that the police are coming up with bogus allegations against the president and continue to summon the president for questioning in order to frame him for various charges that have no basis. However, all state authorities deny the allegations.

The former president is currently serving a five year sentence on a money-laundering conviction. Yameen's family and party officials recently requested authorities to transfer him to home arrest for the Holy Month of Ramadan.
