The Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC) as stated that the COVID-19 situation in the atolls still remains dire.
Speaking at a press conference held Sunday, Spokesperson of HEOC Dr. Fathmath Nazla Rafeeq said several large outbreaks were identified in many islands over the past couple of weeks. The biggest cluster currently exists in industrial island Lh. Felivaru and the cluster has spread to the whole atoll, said Nazla. 489 cases linked to the Felivaru cluster have been identified thus far, with two new cases detected over the past 24 hours. 130 cases are also active in Naifaru island of the same atoll.
K. Huraa has 173 cases, with the most recent cases identified over the past 24 hours. 50 cases have been recorded in Th. Veymandhoo, with 16 cases identified on Friday and 12 on Saturday. A large cluster has also been identified in ADh. Maamigili. Out of the 65 positive cases recorded on the island, 17 cases were detected over the past 24 hours.
Dr. Nazla urged those in islands to seek medical care as soon as symptoms of COVID-19 are exhibited.
The Maldives has recorded 26,245 positive cases and 69 COVID-19 deaths thus far. The archipelago has vaccinated over 278,000 with the initial dose of the COVID-19 vaccine while over 35,000 people have been fully vaccinated.
