Strict measures taken to contain COVID-19 spread in Maafushi

Tourism island, K. Maafushi's council has taken strict measures to contain the spread of COVID-19 on the island.

An announcement issued by the island council said special measures are being implemented for a duration of two weeks due to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases on the island.

In this regard, all excursion and water sports services offered on the island will be temporarily banned while hotels, cafe's and restaurants will be closed to dine-in customers. Only take-away services will be available. Parks and other recreational spaces will also be closed.

All except those who attend work have been asked not to leave their homes. Those going to the mosques must complete their ablution at home prior to going to the mosque, and must carry their own prayer mats.

148 COVID-19 cases have been recorded in Maafushi thus far, and the results of over 200 samples are pending. The islands' health center is seeking the assistance of volunteers to help contain the outbreak.
