Speaker of the Parliament and former president of the Maldives Mohamed Nasheed has received an invitation to address at the Israeli Parliament.
Beginning Thursday's Parliamentary sitting, Nasheed said he has been invited to address at both the Palestine and Israeli Parliaments. He has not made a decision regarding the invitation thus far, he added.
"My first thought is that when I am presented with an opportunity of this nature, I would want to share information with as many people as possible. The country's citizens can decide on how they wish to move forward," said Nasheed.
Noting that Palestine deserves to be an independent sovereign state of its own and that no MPs would dispute the fact, Nasheed said the people of the Maldives are ready to provide any assistance to the people of Palestine. He requested parliament members to research further ways in which assistance can be provided to the Palestinian people.
While Nasheed has received an invitation to address at the Israeli Parliament, he was criticized during his short tenure as President for keeping close relations with Israel.
