Maldives' daily COVID-19 cases hit new record

The Maldives on Monday recorded almost 600 new COVID-19 cases as the archipelago battles a surge in infections.

Authorities reported 585 positive cases for the first time over the past 24 hours, out of which 397 cases were recorded in capital Male'. 160 cases were recorded in the atolls, and 26 cases were recorded in local resorts and industrial islands. This brings the country's tally to 31,330.

While 6,033 cases are currently active, 173 are hospitalized at this time. The Maldives has recorded 74 COVID-19 deaths to date.
