Couple fined heavily for flouting quarantine rules

A couple who got married at Ga.Villingili court while in quarantine have been fined heavily.

According to the police, the couple was fined MVR 10,000 for the violation.

The Manager of the Atoll Hospital in Ga. Villingili, Shareef Ahmed told AVAS that the couple traveled to Villingili from capital Male'. They got married in court on May 11th while still in quarantine. However, both tested negative upon testing for COVID-19.

Villingili is currently under the Health Protection agency (HPA)'s monitoring status after another individual who traveled to the island from the capital tested positive for the virus. The person had flouted quarantine rules and had been out and about on the island. He had mingled with the general population during the quarantine period, said Shareef.
