Cases linked to Dhevvadhoo cluster identified in Dhaandhoo, Villingili

The COVID-19 cluster identified in Ga. Dhevvadhoo has expanded to include cases identified in Ga. Dhaandhoo and Villingili.

The first person to test positive from the island was a person in home quarantine. The person tested positive on December 24th, 2020. Since then, over 20 cases linked to the island have been identified, including cases in Laamu Fonadhoo and Hulhumale’.

The Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC) on Wednesday said that positive cases linked to Dhevvadhoo have now been identified from Dhaandhoo and Villingili island of the same atoll. While two cases were registered in Dhaandhoo, one case is active is Villingili. Both islands are currently under the Health Protection Agency (HPA)’s monitoring status.

Meanwhile, Dhaandhoo island council has stated that one of the positive cases identified in the island - a person who traveled to Dhaandhoo from Dhevvadhoo - was in contact with a large number of people in Dhaandhoo. Contact tracing is now ongoing in both Dhaandhoo and Villingili.
