Businesses that violate restrictions will be fined: Police

Businesses that violate the current restrictions in place will be fined by MVR 5,000, authorities have announced.

Measures in the Greater Mae' Area have been strengthened as the COVID-19 situation in the capital continues to deteriorate. The new measures will come into effect on Wednesday, May 25. According to the new measures, businesses that violate restrictions will be fined heavily.

Effective from Wednesday, delivery services can be provided between 06:00 am and 12:00 am. The police said if delivery services are provided outside of these hours, such business will be fined, in addition to businesses that provide services during the prohibited hours.

The 12-hour curfew in the Greater Male' Area has been extended by four hours to be in effect from 04:00 pm to 08:00 am. Only those who have to fulfill emergency needs will be allowed to go out during the curfew hours.

Arrangements have been changed such that a permit is required to be outside during non-curfew hours. Two permits will be issued per household, and one permit holder will be allowed outside between 8:00 am and 12:00 pm. The second permit holder will be allowed outside from 12:00 pm to 04:00 pm. Furthermore, travel between Male' and Hulhumale' as well as Male' and Villimale' will not be allowed.
