Economic Ministry has announced the new timings during which restaurants and cafes can provide takeaway and delivery services.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) will be implementing stricter measures in Greater Male Area effective from May 26 due to an alarming surge in COVID-19 infections. This includes a curfew from 04:00 pm until 08:00 am and the requirement of a special permit to go out during non-curfew hours.
The new curfew and permit arrangements will affect local businesses, and the Economic Ministry has revised the hours during which services may be provided by local establishments. In this regard, restaurants and cafes can provide delivery services between 06:00 am until 12:00 am. Takeaway service can be provided between 08:00 am and 04:00 pm. Both services can be provided only after obtaining the necessary permits.
Requests for permits must be made via the Maldives Police Service Portal. Permits will be issued for four support staff and two delivery staff for each establishment. If more permits are required, a request must be made at the Economic Ministry which would then review the request and grant passes where appropriate.
Retails shops can also provide delivery services during the same hours. The same process must be followed when applying for permits.
